CITEF: A DECADE INSTALLING SIMULATION TRAINING CLASSROOMS FOR METRO DE MADRID

mar 02, 2016

Metro de Madrid has started the training process scheduled for 2016. The process involves the planned training of the 380 new professionals who are to join current staff to make a total of 1,898 drivers.

Their training includes theory and practical. The theoretical block includes subjects concerning regulations, safety, emergency plans and knowledge of customer service.

The practical block involves simulators where students will have the chance to drive almost all the train models currently travelling on Metro de Madrid. This means training can be offered for future drivers under conditions that would otherwise not be feasible for economic reasons and logistics.

Since 2005, CITEF has installed four classrooms for Metro de Madrid. They are fitted with training simulators to help new drivers gain the best skills and knowledge over 375 hours’ training.

The rooms include four full models of trains from the 3000, 9000, 8400 and Citadis series. In addition, each room has preliminary training posts, with between 8 and 12 of each, equipped with real controls similar to those used on the trains on Metro de Madrid.

These rooms are capable of simulating lines 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Metro Sur, ML1, ML2 and ML3. For rolling stock, training can be given in eight of the series available on Metro de Madrid, as well as driving on all the company’s ATP and ATO systems (speed codes, target distance and CBTC). This gives students experience of many of the situations they will later encounter on the Metro de Madrid network.

Simulation and training post for the Control Centre of each line are also included. This enables training in traffic control system operation and offers joint exercises with driving students in the respective cabs.

More recently, two mini-simulators have been installed at the Operations Control Centre for training staff in the management of malfunctions and incidents.

This is one of the most comprehensive, modern and efficient metro infrastructures in the world.

Today, CITEF continues to update and maintain the simulator system.
