SIMULATION OF CLASSIC TRAINS FOR METRO MADRID

oct 24, 2018

CITEF has developed several highly detailed virtual 3D models of Metro Madrid’s classic trains. Each of the models generated is made up of two types of cabs, engine and carriage, and have been modelled externally as well as internally incorporating a large amount of elements that reproduce the trains as they were when they began operating.

The simulated trains were:

  • Classic train type Cuatro Caminos (1919 – 1921)
  • Classic train type Cuatro Caminos II (1919 – 1921)
  • Classic train type Vallecas (1913 – 1924)
  • Classic train type Ventas (1924 – 1925)
  • Classic train type Quevedo and Tetuán (1925 – 1931)
  • Classic train type Embajadores (1936 – 1939)

The vehicles are displayed in real time, allowing users to move around the train, as well as going inside it. The development is displayed on 4K resolution screens or by means of Virtual Reality devices, obtaining an extraordinary realistic visual experience.

The project was carried out using Unity as the visualization engine, employing more advanced materials and texturizing modelling techniques with Physically-Based Rendering technology.

All of these simulation models are part of the material that Metro de Madrid will display in the exhibition it is preparing for its Centenary that will soon be accessible to the general public in Madrid’s cultural and leisure offer.
