BELLO MONTE STATION: FIRST SECTION OF THE CARACAS METRO’S LINE 5

nov 24, 2015

The first section of Line 5 of the Caracas Metro was officially opened on 4 November – it is 1.3 kilometres long, and operates as an extension of Line 4 between Zona Rental and Bello Monte. It has been estimated that this section will initially be used by more than 30,000 passengers per day.

In partnership with ODEBRECHT and SMART2, and also Metro de Caracas, CITEF conducted surveys to specify the functioning and optimisation of several aspects of the project, such as ventilation of stations and tunnels, and operational surveys focusing on the fleet of trains, intervals between trains and transit capacity.

Other surveys were performed to analyse solutions for the energy system, focusing on the sizing of the traction energy system and auxiliary systems, operation in normal and degraded modes, and optimisation of equipment. The platform screen doors system is another aspect that has been analysed by CITEF.

A further two sections are currently being built on Line 5, which will have a total length of 16 kilometres and will run through the Las Mercedes, Simón Bolívar, Bello Campo, Hugo Chávez, Montecristo, Boletia, El Marqués and Warairarepano stations.
