CITEF INVOLVED IN TESTING AND COMMISSIONING THE ERTMS SYSTEM IN DENMARK

feb 13, 2018

Denmark has been engaged on an ambitious project entailing a full renovation of its rail network’s signalling system since 2012. The Signalling Programme (SP) was launched in 2009 by the Danish Railway Infrastructure Operator Banedanmark, and includes the installation of an ERTMS Level 2 signalling system throughout the country before year-end 2030.

This ambitious programme is divided into two geographic areas:

  • The West side: this covers the continental side, Jutland, where Thales is the supplier providing all the track equipment (axle counters, locking devices, control station, markers, points, level crossings etc.).
  • And the East side: this covers the islands of Zealand and Funen, and here the supplier is Alstom.
  • Baseline 3 on-board units are being fitted by Alstom.

CITEF has been working with Banedanmark since 2017, contributing its experience with the ERTMS system to carry out the definition of two kinds of tests:

  • Final system integration tests to confirm that all Signalling Components are interacting as defined, and that they adhere to the technical requirements and signalling programmes.
  • Operational tests to ensure that all end users (train drivers, operators, maintenance staff etc.) can use the new signalling system before it is commissioned with passengers. These tests perform an assessment of interaction of the functional part, Danish operational rules and the training given to end users.

The tests are currently being carried out on the first two pilot lines, which are scheduled to move into their commercial phase in 2018 in northwest Denmark (Frederikshavn – Lindholm) and southeast Denmark (Roskilde – Køge).
