RIGID OVERHEAD CONDUCTOR RAIL DEVELOPED BY CITEF FOR LINE 1 OF METRO MADRID

jun 06, 2016

The upgrading works for Line 1 of Metro Madrid have now begun. These works include the installation of a rigid overhead conductor rail in replacement of the existing conventional system. This line is the oldest of the entire Madrid Suburban Transport Network, inaugurated on 17th of October 1919, which explains why major engineering studies focused on the installation of modern solutions on an infrastructure that is nearly a century old were sought.

The rigid overhead conductor rail, developed by CITEF and patented by Metro Madrid at a worldwide level, plays a star role in remodelling the infrastructure. Its purpose is focused on strengthening reliability, increasing the quality of the service and optimising maintenance tasks. The special characteristics of the patent held by Metro Madrid are that it improves the collection of current and the separation between supports, and it also enables increasing speed.

The stations encompassed between Plaza de Castilla and Sierra de Guadalupe shall be those to benefit from the new catenary, but before this, the tunnel shall be reinforced with injected cement and special sprayed concrete to facilitate the installation of the necessary supports for the ceiling.
