TRAINING FOR THE NEW CBTC SYSTEM OF LINE 1 OF THE SANTIAGO METRO

jul 29, 2016

The new CBTC system is now a reality on Line 1 of the Metro of Santiago de Chile.

One of the main values of the system is reducing the headway between trains by 20 seconds, which translates into an increase in the frequency of passing trains and therefore in the capacity of Line 1, which will go from operating with 42 trains to 46, in addition to an energy savings of 5%.

To put this into operation, it was necessary to train all operators who work on Line 1 in driving as well as traffic control. To do this, the Operation and Failures Simulator (SCA), developed by CITEF in 2010, was updated, including all system operating modes and the two types of trains that circulate on Line 1 (NS93 and NS07), as well as the new ATS that controls operations.

The training carried out by the Santiago Metro includes training for system operation in driving the trains as well as in the use of the new traffic control systems, incorporating the implementation of joint exercises in driving and traffic – CCO in the SCA.

This way, drivers and personnel from traffic control have been able to learn in advance a substantial proportion of the operational contexts that will be found subsequently in real circulation with the new CBTC.
