INAUGURATION OF THE NEW METRO DE GRANADA DRIVING SIMULATOR

9 de octubre de 2025

The Minister for Development, Territorial Structuring and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Ms Rocío Díaz, inaugurated the new Metro de Granada Driving Simulator on 06.10.2025 in an event covered by numerous local media. She was accompanied by representatives from Granada City Council and the Public Works Agency of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

The simulator is now operational at the Metro’s Workshops and Depot facilities and includes the following training stations:

Driver’s Station: Replica of the tram driving cab.

Instructor’s Station: Enables the creation and monitoring of training scenarios.

Observation Station: For additional supervision and analysis.

The key features of the simulation modules are:

• Highly detailed models of the trams operating on Metro Granada: Urbos 3 and Urbos 100.

• Dynamic, AI-based, model of city traffic and pedestrian movement.

• Simulation of Metro de Granada Line 1, 16 km in length and 26 stations, including the depot and workshop facilities.

• State-of-the-art visual representation with large, high-resolution screens and a viewing angle of over 180º.

• A set of faults and incidents that allow training in risk scenarios and degraded operating conditions.

From Hecoform, CITEF’s training design and control tool installed at the Instructor’s Station, it is possible to create any type of training scenario, link them to courses and trainees, and monitor them during the exercise. All this information is stored in a database for analysis and record-keeping.

In the words of Ms Rocío Díaz: “This simulator will train drivers in complex situations, as it recreates faults, incidents and more than 25 adverse circumstances that may occur during service. We are making use of new technologies to be prepared and ready for any anomaly.”
