NEW DRIVING AND BREAKDOWN SIMULATOR L3 METRO DE MADRID

may 09, 2022

Metro de Madrid's Series 3000 Driving and Breakdown Simulator has undergone a complete upgrade.

In its Villaverde Depot, Metro de Madrid has installed a Driving and Breakdown Simulator for the 3000 Series running on Line 3. This simulator was developed by the Railway Technology Research Centre (CITEF) between 2005 and 2008, the first version of which was delivered in April 2006. As a result of its excellent design and the great maintenance work carried out by the CITEF team, the system has been training train drivers continuously for 16 years.

In 2021 Metro de Madrid commissioned an upgrade to introduce new electronic components, new training booths in the form of Compact Stations and an updated visual system, as well as adapting the software to the new operating system. All this will extend the simulator’s useful life so that it continues to be available for training on 3000-series trains.

The simulator is equipped with ONE Instructor Station, EIGHT Pre-Training Stations and ONE real Cab Booth. The hardware for both the Instructor Station and the Pre-Training Stations is brand new, and the software has been updated. In the case of the Cab Booth, the train hardware has been integrated with the new computer equipment as well as the updated software.

The visual system representing Madrid Metro’s Line 3 has been completely renewed to take advantage of the Unity-based visual technology currently used by CITEF, which allows a notable improvement in terms of realism, image quality and perception of the surroundings.
